Alexander McQueen has fascinated me for a while now and after researching him a bit, I wanted to do a shout-out-post.
In 1996 he was appointed head designer of Givenchy after John Galliano. Apparently he had to tone down his designs for this label but for fall ’98 he did a show where car robots were spraying paint on disabled models who were walking on wooden legs… AWESOME. That really sounds like the label was stunting his creativity. I can’t find any pictures of this and I’m too lazy to look for more than a few minutes so you’ll just have to imagine the awesomness like I am.
While he was on board with Givenchy, Bjork sought him out to design her dress for her Homogenic album and he also directed her music video Alarm Car.
In 2001 he left Givenchy and shortly after launched his own brand.
He’s known for his lavish and totally weird runway shows which I have come to LOVE.
Spring 2001
As you can see, a bunch of bald models walking around a glass box with owls attacking them is a perfect example of the lavish-weirdness we love.

I love this show. It's our nomad girl waking around in the snow. This first image is gorgeous.
Spring 2004
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the concept. Check out the whole show. Every model has a dance partner and they are all dancing according to their outfits.
Fall 2005
Oh look, our Mad Men gal.

This first dress literally gave me shivers. the material seems other worldly. It's breathtaking.

In February 2010, Alexander committed suicide leaving his Fall 2010 collection unfinished. The company decided to show it anyway and it is by far my favorite. Alexander's suicide note said
"Look after my dogs, sorry, I love you, Lee." The fact that all he asked was for someone to look after his dogs, made me love him even more.

RIP Lee
